Pizza Studio

By Aimee from The Elephant of Surprise

Nothing says a family-style weekend like a pizza dinner. We recently had the opportunity to test out Pizza Studio in Fort Union, and it did not disappoint. The most popular route is a build-your-own with loads of options. You can choose your crust, cheese, and toppings. I tried things like kalamata olives, zucchini, and tomatoes, and it was sooo delicious. My hubby went the bbq direction, and my boys split a classic pepperoni.

All the pizzas are served personal sized, which I love because it gives you the chance to sample a few different ones. There have been lots of more "gourmet style" pizzerias opening lately, and the taste of Pizza Studio ranks right up there with the best, but without a hefty price. We loved that. Also, it has to be said that the service was outstanding! The staff was super friendly and gave us lots of helpful tips and suggestions when ordering. Not only that, but the manager checked in with us during our dining experience and was so nice.

Gotta love a family-friendly joint, right?? Be sure to visit Pizza Studio at one of their 4 (soon to be 5) locations here around Salt Lake.

See's Candy in Sugarhouse

By Aimee from The Elephant of Surprise
'Tis the season for all the best things--like gift giving, chocolate . . . and, well those are about the best things that I know of! See's Chocolate is pretty much a holiday tradition, so it's perfect timing that a new shop has opened nearby for us Salt Lake locals in Sugarhouse. You can find this "Quantity Discount" store (which means that this location supplies the candy for fundraisers and bulk business orders, etc) at 2107 S and 700 E. Come down and check it out!

A few things you might not already know about See's Candy:

-You can build your own box. Meaning that you can choose each and every chocolate that goes in the box you buy, so you can be sure every one is a favorite.
-See's Candy is gluten free
-They are the only company that ages their chocolate. I don't know what that means exactly, but when it comes to wine and cheese that's supposed to be the best, right??
-They use no added preservatives.
-You get a free piece of chocolate every time you visit!

Tracy Aviary Little Chicks Classes

By Aimee from The Elephant of Surprise

When was the last time you went to Tracy Aviary? I just went today with my little ones to attend one of their "Little Chicks" classes, and we were all SUPER impressed. If you haven't been lately, you must--and if you have little ones between the ages of 2 and 5, click here to check out their Little Chicks classes. They offer these classes during the spring and fall, and although this week is the first week of classes, there's still time to sign up! Or you can register for the classes a la carte and do just one.

The series is 6 weeks long, with 1 class a week. Classes last for an hour and include activities, songs, stories, and a snack. And the most exciting part is a new and special bird visits each class.

Below is my son feeding our bird friends today.

Here is our cute teacher, Jenn leading the kids in bird exercises.

Today they got a little science exploration kit, and they even painted their own bags. So cute!

If you're a member at the Aviary already, the classes come at a discount. If you're not, you get to explore the aviary as part of the class fee each time you come.

These birds are awesome, and there is lots of fun things for your kiddos to do.

Head over to the Tracy Aviary website to check out all the fun things they have going on there, and to register for their fun and educational Little Chicks Classes! You will love them.

Cafe Wave in South Jordan

By Aimee from The Elephant of Surprise

Hey, I Heart Salt Lake readers! I'm here to tell you about an awesome new restaurant in South Jordan called Cafe Wave. Isn't it pretty?

Cafe Wave is located at 10382 South Jordan Gateway right across from the Trax station. I love how they incorporated the view of Trax outside into their decor. Isn't that mosaic amazing? Cafe Wave has a casual, but cool atmosphere perfect for workday lunches or an evening date. They even cater lunch to your office if you're nearby. They just opened their doors a few weeks ago, so their service is limited on the weekends, but they are open Monday through Friday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

My husband and I stopped by for lunch and tried two yummy sandwiches. I had the Chicken Capri (grilled chicken, fresh mozzarella, tomato, arugula, and pesto) and my husband had the Braised Beef Melt (braised top round, caramelized onion, mushrooms, roasted red pepper and garlic, brie cheese, and horseradish sauce). Are you drooling yet?? The Braised Beef was our favorite, but everything honestly sounded delicious.

Cafe Wave's menu boasts lots of sandwich options, burgers, and salads. They're going for a home-cooked, comfort food vibe, and one of the things they're proudest of is the quality of the food they're offering to customers. They say they don't have a single microwave in the restaurant, and everything is made quality and fresh. You have to try out Cafe Wave and let us know what you think!

Schmidt's Farm and Greenhouse

By Aimee from The Elephant of Surprise

Are you loving the spring weather, or what?! Nothing gets me excited like seeing spring blooms, and pretty blossoms on the trees. It's a wonderful season. If you are looking to beautify your flower beds, or plant some things for a fall harvest, you MUST check out Schmidt's Farm and Greenhouse in West Jordan. This greenhouse is brand new and beautiful. This is only their second spring open, and it is such a fun place.

Although the greenhouse is new, this is a family-run business, and has been since 1910! I love picking out flowers, but I love it even more at Schmidt's because it is such a fun experience. One of the best things they have going on are FREE gardening classes. These classes are taught by certified Master Gardeners, and cover topics like raised bed gardening, container gardening, raising vegetables, and more. Check out their website here for the full schedule, their address, and more great info!
