Flash Back Friday: Cold Springs Trout Farm

By Ashlee Prisbrey from Topsy Turvy

trout-farm-fish

Fishing involves gear, a fishing license and hours of waiting, right? Some people think that's the best part, the quite, the time, the waiting... but not kids, at least not MY kids. My kids like catching fish immediately! They also like seeing and feeding the fish. So when my oldest son started asking about going fishing I started looking around for a fish farm!

trout-farm-kids-fishing

I was SO happy to find one close by! Cold Springs Trout Farm is absolutely lovely! The ponds were full, the area was so so SO beautiful! My kids were so happy and had a GREAT time! We not only had fun catching fish, but they sold fish food for 25 cents a FULL cup and the kids spent a ton of time feeding the kids.

You pay by the fish, and they gut them for you (actually my boys favorite part was watching that part!). And for just a bit extra they will also filet them for you (which makes it easy to take home and cook). They also have a fly fishing pond if your interested. They also have two areas for groups, large and small, with grills, tables, etc... Here is their new brochure for more information (and a map)

Flash Back Friday: Waxing Gurus

About three years ago, I was driving up 4500 South, saw the cutest sign, that was brown and polka dotted that said Waxing Gurus. I quickly wrote the number down, knowing that I needed a little work. I called Waxing Gurus the next day and they were able to set me up immediately for a much needed brow wax and dye. Since then I have been a faithful and very happy client.

Waxing Gurus not only offers all types of waxing services, they do it using their Bear-able, very little pain method. Waxing Gurus estheticians do their very best to fit you in on your schedule. There have been times when they have even opened up a time for me in an emergency "hairy" situation. I have been to several of the estheticians and have never been disappointed, they are all very conscientious of your time, your personal space and what it is that you are looking to have done. The Waxing Gurus staff become your friends, people that you trust and gals you look forward to seeing.

Is your husband or boyfriend starting to sprout those unwanted nose, ear or back hairs? Waxing Gurus also specializes and has a large male clientele.

Waxing isn't all they offer at Waxing Gurus, they do all types of facials, including their speciality, hydrafacials. Need a spray on tan for that special winter event? Call Waxing Gurus. Teeth a little dull? Waxing Gurus has a specialist that does teeth whitening.

Waxing Gurus also sells quality facial care products that are only the best for your skin. Great care is taken by the owner to make sure that the products she recommends and sells are only a high quality product. Also, while you are there be sure to look at the cute scarves, handbags and jewelry, they make great presents for friends.

Look for Waxing Gurus on Facebook, Twitter and their website, www.waxinggurus.com. Don't wait for the sun, start waxing now. Give your skin a treat at Waxing Gurus during this dry winter, call 801-272-0131.

Flash Back Friday: Utrecht Art Supplies

By Beth Davis

It’s obvious when you walk through the door that Utrecht knows their business. Utrecht Art Supplies can supply you with the tools for your creative needs. They are well stocked with quantity and variety, whether novice or professional they have you covered.

Being a dabbler in several mediums, I find what I need and a great deal more. But what I like best is that the staff knows exactly what I need and where to find it.  Located on the street level of the Petersen’s Art Studios bldg. in the heart of Sugarhouse, they are easy to find and get to.

The store is stocked full with everything needed to explore one's creativity. Whether you need supplies for painting, drawing, sculpting, framing, printmaking, etc. you are sure to find it at Utrecht.

Flash Back Friday: Epic Casual Dining

We thought it was about time to tell you about Epic Casual Dining
You know those perfect restaurants for lunch with the girls but double as a great place for date night? Well, that's Epic.  But Epic isn't just for lunch with the girls or a date.  It's great for work, families and even large gatherings.

Epic is well known for their amazing flat breads and by amazing I mean mouth watering. I have been known to order flat bread for my meal because they are that good.  But don't start thinking that's the only good thing on their menu. The menu is full of flavorful salads with the best dressings and their entrees will leave you full and satisfied.

Flash Back Friday: Home Again

By Beth Davis

In the heart of Sugarhouse, where it seems there is something for everyone, there is an establishment that has something for everyone inside and some of it spills out on to the sidewalk. Home Again is not only my favorite consignment shop, it’s my favorite shop of any sort. I’ve been frequenting this mercantile as both buyer and seller for a decade.

Every time I walk through the door, it appears the entire shop has been restocked. That’s one aspect that sets Home Again apart as a successful consignment store, the turnover is quick and that benefits everyone.
The management has a knack for knowing what their customer base is and they take in items accordingly. I’ve found their prices to be fair as both a consigner and a purchaser, so I’m willing to take their advise on a price if I have items to unload. It’s in everyone’s best interest to keep it real. And, I’ve come across some screamin’ good deals over the years.

If I wander in to browse, I make a loop through the menagerie at least twice, once in each direction. Even then I know I miss a thing or two, but I also know it won’t be long before I’m back again.
I love the collection of mismatched styles, the mixture of old and new. The theme, if there is one, must be “something for everyone”.

Iron patio furniture, a pretty vase, candlesticks, a funky swag lamp, delicate stemware, original art, coffee table, end table, dining table & chairs, a set of shelves, a favorite book, and most recently a huge set of fine china, have all made their way from someone’s home, to the shop in sugarhouse, and finally to my place where they are Home Again. What could be better than that?

A few years ago a new shop opened in Midvale. Two Locations, double the deals!

Flash Back Friday: The Old Dutch Store

The Old Dutch Store in Salt Lake City specializes in hard to find Dutch, German and Scandinavian food, treats and gifts.  Inside you'll also find a great deli.  With their sandwiches made to order and a few tables inside, it's a great place to pickup lunch.

The market offers imported treats and gifts from all over Europe.  We loved the plush slippers that look like dutch wooden shoes, the bumper stickers from most every European country and the Dutch and German candies and cookies.

Stop in soon, or you can even order some of their food online.

Flash Back Friday: Carol's Pastries

Located in the heart of Sugarhouse is Carol's Pastries.  In fact it can be tricky to find.  But it's well worth the effort.  Down a one-way lane, the exterior doesn't look like much.  But once you open the door the smells and the sights of the baked goods will grab you.

Carol's has some of the best eclairs in the Salt Lake Valley.  In fact, my mother took 6 dozen of them in her carry-on packages for a wedding in Houston one year.  The wedding just wouldn't be complete without some eclairs from Carol's.

But that's not all they make.  Carol's is a full service bakery.  Cakes, cookies, pastries, pies, breads and so much more.  These aren't your grocery store type of baked goods.  Carol's takes extra care by using quality
ingredients.

Call ahead for special orders.
