Millies Burgers

I don't know about you, but I always love a good "pink sauce" burger.  You know, the kind from the old fashioned hamburger joint that's been around forever.  Well, when I'm craving an old fashioned burger, I go to Millie's.

Millie's is a family owned burger place that's been in Sugarhouse for decades.  They have great burgers and fresh cut fries, but you can also get some great homemade onion rings and zucchini fries there too.  Millie's has so many different options from  Fish n' chips and tacos to a Malibu chicken sandwich and you can't go wrong with any of your choices.  Try a Millie's double cheese combo (my favorite) and top it off with a flavored soda, my favorite is their cherry coke---with perfect pellet ice.  Yum!

When it's warm outside, drop in for a glacier, a fruit flavored slushee with ice cream in the middle.

Lugano Restaurant

One of my favorite things about Italy are all the quaint restaurants, the kind that make you feel like you stumbled on an Italian secret. The same goes for Lugano.  The Italian restaurant is nestled in a quiet East Millcreek neighborhood, where chef and owner, Greg Neville lets you in on the secret of fresh Italian fare.

Lugano specializes in Northern Italian dishes, using locally grown produce and the freshest ingredients around.  Neville is very hands on and is continually updating the menu to reflect the season.

With dishes like killer braised short ribs, torched pears, and gnocchi made in house, it's no secret Lugano wins numerous dining awards each year.

    RubySnap

Two years ago a new cookie bakery opened in Salt Lake City.  It's RubySnap, a catchy name for some of the best cookies around.  The RubySnap storefront is on 300 West at 770 South.  Inside you'll find a unique cookie bakery.  Every cookie is made from scratch with all natural ingredients and no preservatives.

The smell of baking cookies grabs you as you first walk inside.  Each flavor of cookie is named after real people in the owner, Tami Cromar's life.  There are always 12 flavors on hand and a special flavor of the month too. This months flavor is the Josephine. It's coffee, kahlua and tiramisu.  Stop by in February and try the Red Velvet cookie.

The Cookies at RubySnap are unique.  Each made with care.  Some with nuts, dried and fresh fruit and chocolate.  The local favorites are The Audrey-almond dough packed full of almonds, cranberries and white chocolate and The Vivianna-mangos and dark chocolate in a citrus dough.  Our favorite was The Lilly- a lemon sugar cookie with lemonheads and lemon glaze.

RubySnap sells frozen cookie dough. They also have an online store.  You can buy and send the cookies or the frozen dough.  Stop by soon and pick up a few.

The Training Table Restaurant--a Utah Original

The Training Table restaurant first opened it's doors in Midvale,Utah in October of 1977.  Four years later they opened their second restaurant.  Now there are 6 locations in the Salt Lake Valley and one in Provo and another in Layton.

The Training Table features gourmet hamburgers, sandwiches, soups and fresh salads.  Not to mention their famous cheese fries.  Training Table has been serving up cheese fries long before others even thought of adding cheese to french fries.  Don't forget to order their ultimate dipping sauce for the fries and chicken fingers.

Customers order using telephones placed near each table. The order-by-phone is a unique feature of the Training Table.  The phone will buzz to let you know your order is ready.

Training Table offers 17 gourmet burgers and another 17 gourmet sandwiches on their menu.  But they will make your burger or sandwich just about any way you want.  They also offer salads and soups.  We recommend their homemade ranch dressing.  It's the best ranch around.

We suggest the #16 Blue Bacon Burger, the #26 Turkey and Ham sandwich, the grilled Chicken salad and of course the cheese fries. They are just a few of our favorites.

Utah Opera Company's Hansel and Gretel

Have you ever watched Pretty Woman and wondered why you've never dressed in your finest and attended the opera?  Are Madame Butterfly and the Pirates of Penzance that intimidating or have you not gone because you don't know what to expect?

Make it a new year's resolution to add a few more cultured activities into your calendar in 2011.   Utah Opera Company has made it easy by adding performances of a story we all know, Hansel and Gretel.

Two lost children would be a tasty treat for the evil Witch, but Hansel and Gretel are too clever to be served as dinner. Grimm’s timeless fairy tale comes alive with glorious music, an eerie forest, and mystical woodland creatures

Everything you need to know about show times and ticket prices can be found at the Utah Opera Website
    Still feeling a little uncomfortable?
